Motability - How it works

Discover how easy it is to get behind the wheel of a brand new Nissan through the Nissan Motability scheme here at West Way.

We are proud to be a Premier Partner of the Government-funded Motability Scheme. This means that when you visit West Way, our dedicated Motability specialists will help you find a car that will meet all your individual needs and requirements plus advise you on any additional aids you may need.

Available through the Motability Scheme, we have the award-winning Qashqai SUV which is now available with a mild hybrid or e-POWER power train, or the Juke Crossover, also available as a hybrid - both very popular crossover models. Looking for something for city driving?  Switch to zero-emissions driving, with the 100% electric LEAF and ARIYA which are both also available on the Scheme.

What is Motability?

It's a charity organisation that was set up in 1977 and is funded by the Government to assist with disabled people's travel, making their lives easier and providing access to areas possible out of reach without this scheme.

How does the Motability scheme work?

The Motability scheme is simple. You choose a car available on the Motability scheme, and you exchange your eligible Motability allowance (or part of it depending on the car you choose) for a car lease.

The car you lease can also be adapted to suit your requirements; adaptations can be made for driving, access and storing mobility aids.

Even if you don’t drive, you can still apply for a Motability vehicle and choose up to two nominated drivers on your behalf.

Your Motability scheme will last for three years and allow you to cover 60,000 miles.

When the scheme ends, you return the vehicle like you would with a regular lease.

Ordering a vehicle

Ordering your new vehicle through the West Way Motability scheme is simple and straightforward:

1. Choose your dealer

All our dealerships have dedicated M0otability experts. Find your nearest West Way dealership here.

2. Find the right car for you

Our Motability specialists can help you find the car that is right for you needs. The Motability scheme is only available on new cars.

3. Place your order

Our Motability experts will take care of everything for you including helping with the paperwork. An application has to be placed with Motability, once this is approved, we can order your new car.

4. Collect your car

You’ll sign your lease agreement when collecting your car, by entering your PIN at the dealership.

What do I need to take to the dealer to place an order?

You will need the following:

  • Certificate of entitlement from the Department of Work and Pensions
  • Your ID – such as a driving licence or passport
  • Proof of address, such as a council tax bill or bank statement from the last 6 months
  • Other drivers that will be on the insurance need to be present with their driving license. Or they can fill in a driver consent form

What do I need to take when collecting my car?

You will need your PIN, driving licenses of all drivers plus proof of identity such as a passport.

Your PIN will be sent to you before you need to collect your car.

Changing your car

If you are currently driving a Motability car and you are nearing the end of you lease, you will be able to order your next car three months before the end of your lease, providing you have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance. If you are planning on continuing with the scheme, during this time we advise you start thinking about your next car so you can reduce waiting time in between lease deals.

If you are in the last three months of your lease, contact us regarding your Motability renewal and we can help you with replacing your car. You can arrange a test drive at any of our West Way dealerships.

Can I cancel my car lease agreement?

Its possible to cancel your lease agreement depending on your reasoning. Contact your Motability specialist to talk about cancelling your agreement.

Adaptations

Vehicles can be fitted with adaptations according to your needs, helping you to drive, access and store mobility aids in your car.

Some adaptations are not compatible with all Motability cars, so it’s best to decide which of them you will need before choosing a car.

A Suitability assessment will be carried out by your Motability export, assessing your needs to make suitable recommendations.

Wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) are also available on the Motability scheme. These are vehicles suitable for a person in a wheelchair to travel in a vehicle while remaining within the wheelchair.
