A guide for driving to university

So you've decided to head off to uni... but what do you need to know before you begin your journey?
You're moving onto a new chapter of your life, and not only will you be beginning your studies, but you may also potentially be moving to a new city, so you need to plan your journey.

Here are our top tips on how to prepare yourself before you move to university.

Check your insurance
Your policy needs to have the address of where you will be spending most of your time, otherwise you policy won't be valid! This means that if you are using your own car, you will need to change your address to your student accomodation.

Breakdown cover
Whilst sorting your insurance, it may also be worth checking if you have breakdown cover, and if not... why not? If you have a long drive to your chosen university you may want this incase of an emergency.

Car healthcheck
To ensure your journey will go smoothly, we would reccomend giving your car a once over, which you can do yourself, or even take it to a garage to be serviced. It's important to ensure you check your fluid levels before you leave for such a big journey. You will need to check your

Pack safely

Ensure the way you have packed will be safe for your journey. Try not to block any mirrors, as this will effect your visability. Ensure that nothing can fall on top of you, or in anyway that may block your vision or distract you from the road ahead.

Plan your route
There's nothing worse than setting off and feeling lost, or taking a wrong turning... so make sure you double check your journey and plan ahead. By doing this, you could avoid long traffic on motorways, or even roadworks that are causing major delays. You may also find that you become more familiar with your route, even if you just look it up online.

Leave plenty of time
When planning your journey, ensure you give yourself enough time to travel there, and don't rush yourself. Nobody knows what will happen on the roads during your journey so you need to think of the unexpected.

Sort the parking situation
Before you leave you may want to have a quick look at where the nearest parking is available around your accommodation. By doing this, you can ensure you won't be driving around for hours, on roads you aren't familiar with, stressing about where to park. Some accommodations provide parking for a price. If you don't know how to find a car park - look on google maps.
