    Comparison: Nissan Qashqai v Volkswagen Tiguan

    The UK’s first and firmly favourite crossover, the Qashqai, has evolved. The All-New Qashqai is a significant development from the highly successful 2017 model, with a totally brand-new look, an overhaul in terms of spec and a more planet-friendly engine line-up.

Amongst the Qashqai’s numerous competitors is the Volkswagen Tiguan, the smaller bother of the German brand’s 4x4 Touareg – hence the more 4-wheel-drive look to the Tiguan. Here we compare the Qashqai and the Tiguan for price, spec and economy.

The first thing to notice is that the Volkswagen Tiguan spec is itemised a differently to the Nissan Qashqai. The key spec listed for the Tiguan is additional to the ‘Life’ grade (the cheapest compared below), whereas the Qashqai shows spec additional to the next lowest grade. Secondly, the pricing which alters significantly in its increments for each improvement in grade.  Thirdly, the Qashqai only comes in Mild-Hybrid petrol format (with Hybrid coming soon) whereas the Tiguan still comes in petrol, diesel and now hybrid.

“We spent a week behind the wheel of a Nissan Qashqai Tekna+ automatic in 158hp form and averaged a very impressive 47.1mpg on a mixture of fast A-road and motorway driving, with a little urban thrown in for measure. That’s better than the combined official figure and it was easily achieved too.”

Real Life Fuel Economy:

“The best blend of performance and fuel economy comes from the 150hp 2.0-litre diesel. It returns a claimed 58.9mpg on the combined cycle – on long runs, this could potentially top 60mpg. DSG (automatic) models, with their longer top gear ratios, will be better cruisers, but there’s very little difference in overall economy between automatic and manual models.”
