From today drivers in England and Wales caught at speeds excessively above legal limits face higher penalties, up to a maximum speeding fine of £2,500.
Previously, motorists caught doing 51mph in a 30mph zone or 101mph on a motorway were fined 100 per cent of their weekly income. However, under new guidelines for magistrates, speeding fines for motorists will start from 150 per cent of their weekly income, a huge increase of 50 per cent!
