West Way Hanwell Welcomes Street League Charity

On Friday 12th October, West Way Hanwell welcomed sport for employment charity Street League to their dealership.

West Way Hanwell recently welcomed sport for employment charity Street League to their dealership, for a ‘day in the life of’ experience to engage a team of young people with the opportunity of working at Nissan.

As official partners of the UEFA Champions League, Nissan kicked off its relationship with grassroots organisation Street League in the UK, in February this year, as part of its programme to help address the issue of youth unemployment in Europe, in line with the company’s vision to create a “cleaner, safer, fairer” world.

Street League – the UK’s leading sport for employment charity – works across the UK to engage young people not in education, employment or training (NEETs) through sport, into employment. Aligned with the Nissan Skills Foundation, Nissan’s partnership with Street League aims to encourage the next generation of talent in the UK automotive industry.

West Way Hanwell brought the partnership to life, and opened their doors to 11 Street League participants, to provide them with insight into how a dealership operates. General Manager, Rab Miah and his team including West Way HR Director Andy Buswell, presented Nissan’s apprenticeship scheme and opportunities to work at one of Nissan’s highest achieving sites.

The West Way apprenticeship scheme is a 12 month programme; offering on the job, hands-on experience in sales, customer services and as a technician. Rab was keen to share the long-term career path that such an opportunity provides – with previous Hanwell apprentices becoming sales executives and service advisors, through the support and encouragement they received during their apprenticeship at Nissan West Way.

Joe Flack, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Street League commented about the day: “Our visit to the Nissan dealership was a great opportunity for Street League participants to see a dealership in action and learn about all the potential careers in the industry. Thanks to our partnership with Nissan, Street League are able to offer more opportunities to the young people on our programme”.

The day was a success, as two Street League members who attended the informative day have applied onto the Apprentice scheme, in hope of becoming trained technicians at West Way Hanwell.

General Manager of West Way Hanwell, Rab Miah said: “West Way Hanwell were very pleased to host Street League and fully support the initiative. We are pleased to be asked to be part of the collaboration. The programme was received well and even resulted in applications to join our apprentice programme. We look forward to our continued partnership”.
