    What is Nissan e-Power?

Nissan has developed the e-Power system to deliver a responsive drive with quiet, smooth acceleration - just like any normal EV car. But this is no conventional EV system. This is a hybrid system with all the added benefits of an electric vehicle.

e-Power delivers:

  • Massive torque almost instantly on acceleration, just like an EV

  • Quiet operation when driving, just like an EV

  • Fuel efficiency that’s comparable to leading hybrid vehicles

How Does The e-Power Technology Work?

Nissan has taken the innovative technology from the Nissan LEAF but added a petrol engine with the sole purpose of charging the high-output battery. This achieves the same experience you receive from an EV of the instant acceleration and torque, but without the need to be charged - eliminating that charging time on long journeys.

e-Power System

talk through the e-Power system setup: it starts with the high-output Lithium-ion battery that is connected to the electric powertrain. This electric system is then integrated with a petrol engine, power generator, inverter and motor. To stop the confusion we have provided diagrams of the e-Power vs a 100% electric vehicle and a conventional hybrid vehicle.

The key element about the e-Power is the petrol engine is not connected to the wheels. The only job of the petrol engine is to charge the battery. The battery then powers the electric motor to move the wheels.

Conventional Hybrid System

With your everyday hybrid system, you’ll have an electric motor and petrol motor that both drive the wheels.

100% Electric Vehicle

A 100% electric vehicle power source is the electric engine, driven by the battery that has to be charged externally.

The e-Power system developed by Nissan has allowed for a smaller petrol engine to be used, allowing to minimize weight. Nissan has optimized energy management as e-Power uses a smaller battery than the Nissan LEAF, meaning the driver gets the same experience as they would get when driving an electric vehicle. What Nissan has achieved with the e-Power has been one of the motor industries biggest achievements for compact cars. We'll see the new e-Power powertrain in the all-new Nissan Qashqai when released in early 2022.
